Deconstruction: Phantoms of the Past and the Future
Missing touch. Performance.
Within the framework of the project in honor of the 30th anniversary of the State Gallery on Solyanka “Breaking isn’t building”
Back in the previous century, American painter Jackson Pollock formulated his art paradigm. The visible result is only a fixation of the process of its creation. And only this is the real work. Likewise, the silhouettes of the characters that arose during the performance are just the result of fixing the process. This is a phantom painting.
Ghost pain in the Performance.
Past and the Future
As with Fellini, the subject netter of the project was the theme of the death of the old culture, the disappearance of its last representatives into oblivion, took a central place, so in the performance – the main motive is the characters of the past, to which memory clings.
A phantom is an inexplicable, strange, unsteady phenomenon that carries a state of confusion, the chaos of uncertainty.

When a person loses a part of his body, then for a long time he feels phantom pain, absent touch. How is it possible to deconstruct and at the same time pay tribute to the history of the gallery in order to get rid of the phantom pain of art bygone?

Artists and picture of a phantom
The space of the gallery was gradually transformed by the artists through the embodiment of fantasies about the phantoms of the gallery's past and future. The discovery of phantom images of the past exhibitions and heroes, working with the “spirit of the place”, unclear forms of the future space/ environment... Inoperative CCTV cameras, forgotten museum signs, shadows from wires are the main witnesses and heroes of the history of what was happening here once before us. One of the tasks was to give the sound of what was, the past of this place in an artistic rethinking. Forgotten objects, remaining signs, appliances, furniture, as participants in parting with the usual image of the gallery. What can be found when left alone with this space, what happens at the moment of destruction? Another thing is to capture the vague voices and outlines of the future. The walls themselves dictated the development of the plot. The atmosphere of emptiness recreated the images of the past, transforming them into new mythical visions. Creation of a situation of conflict-symbiosis between a static past with phantoms, ghosts and a dynamic future, which is organically or otherwise “inconvenient”, “out of place” invades the “already established” and irrevocably changes this space. In one of the spaces, a group phantom of random (or not random) characters, busy with their own affairs, was born for a month, as art of this century. How the reflection of foreign objects arose work based on Jackson Pollock
