“Dog’s tail”? Dog style!
The ingenious Frenchwoman Coco Chanel introduced the checkered pattern into fashion back in the 1920s.

Until the 19th century, the goosefoot looked about the same as its border tartan counterpart. The name of this tartan comes from the region in which it appeared, located at the border between Scotland and England (in English, border means “border”). And like any other true Scottish pattern, this print also carried an encrypted message. About a man wrapped in such a woolen cloth, one could safely say that he does not belong to any particular clan, but maintains neutrality. So it was the safest thing to put on this fabric in those days

This drawing came into fashion at the beginning of the 19th century. Again, it was not without the Scots, namely politicians and diplomats. Using the “neutral code”, stitched between the black and white canine fangs, they made this ornament part of their image. Following them, the trend was picked up by other public figures and secular fashionistas, including the Prince of Wales himself, who wore a “goose foot” in the first half of the XX century.

But no matter what you call it, this is one of the trendy prints that regularly come into fashion. This print experienced a real boom in the 60s and 80s of the 20th century.
